FAQ and Policies

  • Do I need to be an artist?  Absolutely not!  Our classes are structured for all artistic levels.  Design help is always available.  Take comfort in the fact that I wasn't an "artist" either when I got into glass art.  If you can hold a pen, you can cut and break glass.  If you've ever colored a picture with crayons, you can work with color.
  • Can I get cut by the glass?  Sure you can.  But, I teach safe handling methods and have a safety discussion in EVERY class.  From time to time we all get cut but it's almost always minor.  I have lot of band aids in case there are any boo boos.
  • How do I register for your classes?  Registration is fast and easy from our site.  Click into the calendar page or the class list page.  There is a direct link to register and pay right there.  We look forward to seeing you in our studio very soon!
  • Is there a materials cost?  There is no cost for materials with a few noted exceptions*.  All  materials are included in the class registration fee.  Materials include glass, kiln supplies, use of hand tools, kiln space, use of any grinders and tools needed as well as miscellaneous studio supplies.  You may purchase your own set of basic hand tools from us if you choose.  *Exceptions to the materials fee is Basic Metal Smithing (cost of sterling silver at current market price), Open Studio time and Monday Madness.  There is an extra kiln firing fee if needed.  Glass is not included for Open Studio or Monday Madness.
  • What is included in my class registration?  Bench space, kiln space, use of applicable equipment, discussions, instructor time, numerous handouts and all the fun and bad jokes you can stand!
  • Who can come?  Classes are open to all adults and teens (must have parent sign a disclaimer) who pay the registration fee.
  • Is there handicap access? Absolutely!  There are several tricky spots due to sliding glass door rails and entry way door rails.  But, we will do our best to accomodate anyone who has a desire to learn:)
  • What do I need to wear?  Great question!  Comfortable clothes and CLOSED TOED shoes.  We will be sitting on stools, chairs, standing, squatting, leaning over, etc.  The reason for CLOSED TOED shoes is when you cut glass, tiny shards of glass fall at and on your feet.  If wearing open toes shoes they WILL get inside and cut you up.  Ask me how I know that!  I recommend leather shoes versus open weave tennis shoes.  All of our equipment is on a water drip system and water will drip on your feet.  Note: Long hair needs to be tied back or put up so it doesn't get caught on any fast moving parts.
  • Is there a lunch break? Yes!  I love to eat:)  There is a 30 minute lunch break.  We have a microwave, fridge and several break areas.  Please bring a sack lunch.  If you leave for lunch please be back on time as the class will start up again without you.  There is a lot to cover and you will want to keep working, trust me:)  For evening classes please eat prior or bring a snack to power through.
  • What is the cancellation policy? We understand that things come up from time to time.  In order to balance that with our need to run a business, should you need to cancel, we will refund your payment less 15%.  It is very hard to fill classes at the last minute.  You can, however, apply the full amount to a future class.
  • Do I have to take a class from you to attend Open Studio and use your equipment?  Nope!  But, you must demonstrate equipment competence to me!  In other words, you cannot learn on my machinery unless you are taking my cold working class.  You already have to know what it is and how it generally works.  Another institution's access card will more than likely be sufficient:)
  • Who can come for open studio rental?  Anyone reserving in advance.  Please call 512-576-8340 (Crystal's mobile) so I know you are coming.  Policies and procedures and a list of all equipment available for open studio rental are here.
